
Lupita Amondi Nyong'o is a Kenyan Mexican actress. The daughters of Kenyan politician Peter Anyang 'Nyong'o and Dorothy Ogada Buyu, Nyong'o was born in Mexico City, where her father taught and raised in Kenya when she was just one year old. She attended college in the United States and received a BA in Film and Drama from the University of Hampshire. Nyong'o started his career in Hollywood as a production assistant. In 2008, she began acting with the short film East River and then returned to Kenya to star in the TV series Shuga. Also in 2009, she wrote, produced and directed the documentary In My Genes. She then went on to pursue her Masters in Theater at the Yale School of Drama. Shortly after graduating, she made her film debut as Patsey in the Steve McQueen biopic drama 12 Years a Slave, which she critically won and won numerous awards, including the award for Best Supporting Actress.
